Frequent Questions

What is considered a dental emergency?

Dental emergencies can include severe toothache, swelling, dental infections, a broken or knocked-out tooth, uncontrolled bleeding or significant dental trauma. Contact the practice promptly for advice if you are unsure.

How quickly can I be seen?

Emergency appointments are prioritised according to clinical need and availability. Contact the practice as early as possible so the team can assess your symptoms and arrange appropriate care.

What happens during an emergency appointment?

The immediate aim is to diagnose the problem, relieve pain and prevent the condition from worsening. Further treatment may be required at a separate appointment once the urgent symptoms have been managed.

What should I do if a tooth is knocked out?

Handle the tooth by the crown rather than the root and avoid scrubbing it. Keep it moist in milk or inside the mouth, when safe to do so, and contact a dentist immediately, as prompt treatment can improve the chance of saving it.
