Gentle dental extractions

When is a tooth extraction necessary?
While our goal is always to preserve your natural teeth, there are times when extractions are sometimes necessary to protect your overall oral health.
Tooth extractions are typically recommended when:
Your clinician will discuss this in detail with you so you can be sure that the chosen treatment is the best one for you.
Your treatment journey
If youβre experiencing tooth pain or believe you may need an extraction, contact us today. Our caring and experienced team is here to guide you through the process and provide the highest standard of dental care.
An extraction may be recommended when a tooth is severely damaged, infected, loose or cannot be predictably restored. Teeth may also occasionally be removed as part of orthodontic treatment.
Local anaesthetic is used to numb the area before treatment begins. You may feel pressure or movement, but you should not feel sharp pain during the extraction.
Initial healing usually takes place over the first one to two weeks, although the area beneath the gum continues to heal for longer. Your dentist will provide instructions based on the complexity of your extraction.
You will usually be advised to avoid smoking, vigorous rinsing, strenuous exercise and disturbing the area for a period after treatment. Following your dentistβs instructions helps protect the healing blood clot.

Frequent Questions
Most bridges are completed over two to three visits: assessment, fitting a temporary bridge, then bonding the permanent one once itβs crafted.
We numb the area before preparing supporting teeth, so the process is generally comfortable. Some mild sensitivity afterwards is normal and settles quickly.
Brush as usual and use a bridge floss or interdental brush underneath it daily to keep the area clean and healthy.
It depends on the condition of neighbouring teeth, bone density and your preferences. Weβll talk through the best option at your consultation.
